To brainstorm initial ideas for publication 3 I created a GIF based on word association that relates generically or as a broad theme to my selection of uncomfortable images. The two words I came up with were cruelty and torture. Then Holly and I worked as pair to find a common word or theme that could link both series of uncomfortable images. The word we came up with was 'distortion.'
The word distortion worked best to inspire and visualise both ideas behind the selection of images. The ideas of space and animal torture can be visualised in the description of distortion. Space distorts objects and things i.e. due to lack of gravity, chickens are distorted in appearance through torture where the end of the beaks are cut off so they do not harm each other in confinement where they are held. We visualised this by removing the nose from existing images to symbolise one torture method on chickens. The background of gridline aims to visualise the structure of Space.
