Josef Albers : Interaction of Colour

About

Josef Albers ( 19th March 1888 - 25th March 1967)

Albers is another colour theorist famous in the world of art and design and we are influenced by his discoveries and theories even today. He was an accomplished designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker and even a poet. Although he remembered mainly due to his theorist work and his work as an abstract painter. I found it interesting how Albers had a strict approach with regard to composition.

Styles & Influences

Albers works shows a transition from traditional European art to new American art. Therefore his work often incorporated European influences from constructivists and the Bauhaus movement, the intensity and small scale is typically European. Although a lot of his influence came a lot from American artist's of the late 1950's and 1960's. Abstract painters often now reflect on his use of patterns and intense colours while conceptual artist's further explored an interest in his perception.
