Designing Books with David Pearson & Book Design - A Tour with Craig Oldham

Designing Books with David Pearson

I also watched Designing Books with David Pearson which helped to identify aspects of design I should consider specifically for book cover design.

- communicate in a clear and uncluttered way
- Be spare and direct
- Or be decorative
- Consider the print process
- Craig Oldens design gold dust proves small details can mean everything
- Rich ideas to be enjoyed and interacted with
- Imagery and text can be combined

Book Design - A Tour with Craig Oldham

I watched A Tour with Craig Oldham where he was judging book cover designs. This helped me highlight aspects that he described worked well for some of the cover designs he judged and therefore helped me to acknowledge what makes a book cover design sucessful.

- Effortless looks at content in a great way
- Amazing collections beautifully to size
- Effortless illustration can tie a reflection of a book together
- Capturing a sense of the authors work
- Layout refreshing but classical
- Narrative pins together using text to create balance
- Interactivity - playful response
- Innovative design
- Simple can still be effective
- Not cliche
- Paper type for printing
- Informal / Formal
- Personality
- The feel
