Fanzine Publication 1

During the morning session we created another fanzine publication each by using the same group method collaboration practiced during the Steve Hockett Workshop. We each added to each other's publications by interpreting a set theme in the form of a word such as 'collision.' This meant because each person interpreted the theme or given word the publication wasn't limited to one style or one person's style. This can be reflected in the different experience of making between each person.

This inspired us as a group to create one publication as we could not choose which publication worked best whilst also wanting to include everyone we decided to choose a common theme amongst all of our publications, eyes to curate a themed publication. This developed and explored the publication further to a set or specific theme, making the publication more refined. We decided to add nothing to the collaged imagery but perhaps experiment on alternative paper stock to experiment more with colour and perhaps add alternative mediums such as tracing paper. Therefore to some extent the theme could be used to dictate and curate the production process. We brainstormed producing the layout similar to an eye chart where each page or collage gets smaller like the lettering on an eye chart.  Working as a group to create the publications helped me to avoid sticking to one style which would limit myself.  I broke out of this comfort zone and tried to focus on alternative styles and methods of collage by reflecting and taking visual cues from other people's work and more alternative making experience.

All members of the group were present during the session and we plan to manage our time to work together as a group in the upcoming week. This ensures the workload is balanced and everyone is included and involved. After deciding on our theme we were able to discuss on how and if we should engage the reader. We decided we should engage the reader as this is important and can make the publication more interesting. Initial thoughts to engage the reader were facts based on the theme, eyes. Establishing a common theme allowed us to explore more of a narrative exploring a common theme sequence of eyes. This gave us a response to visual cues and trends throughout the developed publication.

Reflecting on existing examples on Estudio also inspired us to recognise positive attributes in existing examples that could be interpreted into our own group publication. Such as varied sizing and manipulation such as holes through the paper and inserts such as smaller paper inserts of illustrations.
